I’m such a lucky bloke because I’ve had a very varied and exciting career so far. I’m well known for my voice, but I started out as an actor first. I trained at East 15 Acting School from 1989-1992, and I went straight into theatre playing anything from Tootles in Peter Pan, to Gus, in Pinter’s ‘Dumb Waiter’. I’ve also done a bit of t.v, stuff like ‘The Bill’ and ‘London’s Burning’, lots of commercials, (McCleans toothpaste, B.T, Blockbusters etc) and even a movie with Liz Hurley called ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’, which was great fun to make… Liz Hurley was a bit of alright too!

In 2000, however, I got the call from my agent to record some script so that I could be considered, along with 100s of others, for a new ‘reality’ t.v show, which was described by my agent as ‘cameras watching ordinary people, 24-7, cooking, cleaning, showering, chatting… even going to the loo!’… ‘who the hell is going to watch that?!’ I thought. But I recorded the script… something about ‘Johnny is feeding the chickens in the garden’… I couldn’t stop laughing, it seemed ridiculous! Anyway… apparently the producers liked the way I said ‘chickens’, so I got the job… thank god they didn’t put soddin’ ducks in there!

That first series was a real roller coaster ride as it all kicked off over the ‘Nasty Nick’ stuff… and I’ve not looked back since. I have proudly narrated every series of Big Brother, Celebrity Big Brother, and all of the spin offs; from 14th July 2000 – 10th Sept. 2010, which amounts to a grand total of 1054 Days of Big Brother: 2 years, 10 months & 20 Days of my life….. so far. Big Brother 11 was the best ever to work on, I just didn’t want it to end. I loved making the graveside ad, getting together with some of the old house mates, I got really choked up. And going in the house… I’ll never forget it, totally surreal!

I’ve been very busy since the show finished, which I’m grateful for, as I was ready to book myself into therapy for withdrawal symptoms. I love doing the voiceovers, me, its great work… although, as my wife says, “you can hardly call ‘reading out loud’ for a living, ‘work! ” I think she’s hoping I’ll finally get some jobs done around the house… but I’d rather just keep narrating… ‘It’s day 22 in the Big Bentley house..and Marcus is putting his feet up while his wife makes him a cuppa!’…the chance would be a fine thing!
